This article is more than a little unusual for the first time because of a new study by a team of researchers.
A group of 20 men who are currently taking daily, daily pill-like medications for erectile dysfunction have been studied, researchers say.
They included four of their young, healthy volunteers: Dr. Richard Stoner, a professor at the University of Chicago, and Dr. Lisa C. L. Hirschler, an assistant professor at the University of Chicago's College of Medicine.
Stoner was taking the drugs for two years, the researchers reported on Tuesday.
In the new study, researchers recruited two volunteers to participate in a study designed to assess the impact of tadalafil, the erectile dysfunction drug that Cialis was already approved by the Food and Drug Administration in 2003.
"Tadalafil has not been shown to be effective for erectile dysfunction or to have any clinically important effect on men who use it," Stoner said.
"We are excited to have this new trial in the real world."
Stoner said the drug is being studied in two different types of patients, and that one patient, Lyle T. Johnson, who had been taking the pills for the past five years, had been taking the drug for six months.
Johnson, whose family has a history of cardiovascular disease, was not involved in the study. The team recruited 12 volunteers, and the volunteers were randomly assigned to take either daily or daily pill form of Cialis or placebo, the researchers said.
"This is a new study in the real world," Dr. Stoner said. "We think it is going to be very successful."
Stoner said the results have been published in the peer-reviewed journalJournal of the American College of Cardiology.
The study was done by Dr. Hirschler, of the University of California, San Francisco, and her team recruited 50 volunteers.
The study recruited 10 healthy volunteers to take daily pills for four months, and the volunteers were then asked to rate the effects on the other four volunteers on the drug's side effects, and how they felt about the side effects.
"The volunteers had some positive effects on the other four of these subjects, but they were still having problems with erections and getting erections," Stoner said.
Stoner, who was not involved in the study, said that the study may not be a permanent thing for the volunteers and doctors who take tadalafil, such as the University of Chicago's Dr. David W. Schaffer, who is now a professor of psychiatry at the University of California, San Francisco.
"This study will be important in helping to evaluate whether and how the drugs in those who take daily pills are better for erectile function than those who take them without it," Stoner said.
The study is the first of its kind in the United States, and the research is funded by the National Institutes of Health, and the researchers say they hope to test the drug's effects for other health problems, including diabetes, Alzheimer's disease and cancer.
Stoner and Hirschler each studied the drug for six months.
They recruited 50 volunteers who were still taking the pills and then randomly assigned them to take either daily or daily pill form of tadalafil.
"The volunteers took tadalafil daily and daily pill for six months," Stoner said. "It's a good idea that we can use this to help us make a more comprehensive treatment for these patients."
Stoner and Hirschler said that because tadalafil was already approved in 2003, it could take a long time to show effectiveness in the study. They also said that they hoped that the results would show that tadalafil is effective for all men, including those with erectile dysfunction and diabetes.
"We believe this trial will be very useful," Stoner said.
The researchers said that the new study showed that tadalafil is effective in treating erectile dysfunction.
"Tadalafil is generally well tolerated, and we expect that this will continue to be a useful medication," Stoner said.
Cialis is a pill for erectile dysfunction. It is prescribed in three different dosages, and Cialis is available in 60mg, 50mg and 100mg dosages.
The researchers said they were surprised to find that tadalafil was more effective than Cialis in treating erectile dysfunction, especially in men with diabetes.
1.Nitrates (e.g., nitroglycerin, isosorbide dinitrate): Cialis and nitrates both lower blood pressure. Taking them together can cause a significant and potentially life-threatening drop in blood pressure (hypotension), leading to dizziness, fainting, or even heart attack or stroke. It is contraindicated to use Cialis with nitrates or recreational "poppers" (amyl nitrites).
2.Alpha-blockers (e.g., prazosin, terazosin, tamsulosin): Both Cialis and alpha-blockers relax blood vessels, which can lead to excessive blood pressure reduction when used together. This may result in dizziness, fainting, or orthostatic hypotension (a sudden drop in blood pressure when standing). If needed, your doctor may adjust the dosage or recommend spacing the medications.
3.Other antihypertensive drugs (e.g., atenolol, propranolol, enalapril, lisinopril): Cialis can enhance the blood-pressure-lowering effects of these medications. While this interaction is usually less severe than with nitrates or alpha-blockers, it can still cause dizziness or fainting in sensitive individuals. Close monitoring of blood pressure is recommended.

The Mycophenolate Monecht (MPA) Foundation has recently updated its AIDS guidelines to advise limits of MPA use during immunosuppressive therapy (NIC). The aim of this Patient Information leaflet is to provide guidelines for the safest and most effective use of MPA during NIC. If you or anyone in yourbuilding group has recently been diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma (NHL), it is essential to discuss this with your healthcare provider.
While NIC has made progress to understand the true impact of MPA, it still may not be appropriate for all individuals. Many people who have not yet had cancer may still need MPA to prevent relapse. Meeware of unusually high MPA concentrations in blood, as this may lead to excessive alcohol consumption or other adverse effects.
